Ira Chakraborty has been given a chance to fulfil a childhood dream and be a part of the Great Golden Circus, not as an audience member, but a member of the circus crew. For two days, she will live with and work with the rest of the crew, to see firsthand what goes into putting on the show that has been entertaining folks for decades.

My Epic Adventure sends young Indians off on strange and unexpected journeys, to experience places or events even they didn’t know they wanted to.

How do you translate the feeling that the rains bring into sound and music? We set exactly this task to composer Reuel Benedict, vocalist Sahirah and sound mix maestro Shantanu Hudlikar. They came through with flying colours. Presenting Home Away From Home, an ode to India’s monsoons, set to a classical ‘Theyyam’ performance by Payyannur Ganeshan.

Every year, over 30,000 bodies are burnt on the ghats of Varanasi. The last rites are carried out by the Doms – an untouchable caste, said to be blessed by Lord Shiva to guarantee ‘mukti’ or salvation.
Every evening at 7pm, the evening prayers begin on the banks of the Ganga. Just a little distance away, the Dom Raja ends all prayers, surrounded by death.

With dwindling catch close to the shore, fisherman Roy Thomas can’t afford a boat of his own. A simple boat will cost him Rs. 25,000, a sum of money he doesn’t have. To earn his livelihood, Roy has strung together a few plastic bottles and a pipe, and rides this contraption out to sea to try and earn a living.

All Roy wants is to be able to afford to buy his own boat, so he can make a steady income. In the meantime, he’s working on building a boat made out of a plastic drum, so he can be safer, and catch more fish when he’s out at sea.
